As of May 19, 2008, construction of our extension has begun!  I am trying to document all the stages of this process by taking lots of pictures.  I hereby pledge to update the pictures often.  - Donna

Before the new carpet gets laid in the living room and den, Doug built a closet and added a couple lights. (living room looking into den)

Pulling the carpet up in the living room in order to "fix a couple things" before the new carpet comes led to "pulling down the front wall in order to insulate it properly"... (den looking into living room)

... which led to "Hey! This isn't a load-bearing wall. Someone just filled in a large opening. Let's see how big it is." which led to...

... "See? Let's open up this wall, too!" That new carpet suddenly seems a long way off.

Jan. 2010 - Using the handy-dandy sheetrock lifter makes sheetrocking the ceiling in the den easy!


Oct. 09 - The new siding!


Sept. 09 - Sheetrock is going up in the new den.

May 23, 2009 - Our new patio


05/17/09 - Prepping for our new patio.


05/16/09 - The recently renovated Kids' Area of our backyard.


Apr. 25, 2009 - We are moved in! Still needs a few finishing touches.


Apr. 2009 - THE ROOM IS PAINTED AND CARPETED!!!!!

Mar. 09 - Layer of insulation and flooring being layed on top of sub floor.


03/07/09 - Doug glues and screws down the sub floor.


Mar. 09 - We are completely Sheetrocked!!!


2/14/09 - How to Hang Sheetrock by Doug and Jim: First, stand Sheetrock on it's side.


Then, lay it on Jim's unpatented frame.


Lift said frame...


...and angle it to fit the width of the room.


Lift one side up to the ceiling...


...and support.


Attach Jim's unpatented frame to the supports on the wall by sliding pins into the hinges.


Lift the opposite of the Sheetrock.


Support the frame and Sheetrock.


Inspect your handiwork and get ready to screw it into place!

10/5 - Looking at ceiling in new basement, those "tubes" are the new heating system (partially installed).

8/31 - The boys enjoying their manly scaffolding as they install guttering.


8/30 - Putting a new window in Nina's room.


7/22 - Break through from old basement to new basement (1 of 4)

7/13 - Doug is continuing the Dutch roof line over the sliding glass door and around the extension.


7/11 - New roof is on, weather wrap is on and windows are in (two windows are still covered on the back).


7/10 - The roof is being built.


7/7 - The second floor is being built.


7/2 pm - The first floor has been framed.


7/2 am - The sub floor is in.


7/1 - The hurricane straps have been added to the foundation and some rotten wood is replaced.


5/29 - Looking inside the foundation.
